The Build

Step 01 of 04

6-Motor Tank Drive

We built this drivetrain around one thing: never losing a pushing match. Six V5 Smart Motors at 600 RPM — enough torque to hold ground, enough speed to be somewhere else when you need to be.

The Season

2024–25 Season

Sept 2024

Event 1 of 7

Event 01 — Sept 2024

Tournament #1
High Stakes Kickoff

We qualified first in our division. Went into eliminations feeling good. Then autonomous broke at exactly the wrong moment and we were out in quarters. Hurt. But it told us exactly what we needed to fix.

Ranked 1st — Eliminated in Quarters

Event 02 — Oct 2024

Tournament #2
Regional Qualifier

Same story in semis. Autonomous went down again. We drove home quiet. The robot was fast, the strategy was solid — we just couldn't trust the code when it counted. That changed everything about how we approached the next month.

Semi-Finals Exit

Event 03 — Nov 2024

Tournament #3
Regional

Second place. Autonomous held up in five out of six matches. That felt like a turning point. The robot was finally doing what we'd been building toward. We picked up the Design Award and left with momentum for the first time all season.

Runner-Up — Design Award

Rebuild — Jan 2025

V2 Robot
Complete Overhaul

We pulled the whole thing apart and started over. New drivetrain, new intake from scratch using flex wheels, complete code rewrite in PROS and Lemlib. January was brutal. Three weeks of late nights on a deadline nobody gave us — we just knew worlds was coming and the V1 wasn't going to cut it.

V2 Build Complete — 3 Weeks

Event 04 — Feb 2025

State Championship

Third in the state. Driver skills hit a personal best. The V2 ran clean all day — not a single autonomous failure. We qualified for worlds. Standing in that gym knowing we'd punched our ticket was a feeling I won't forget for a while.

3rd Place — World Qualification Secured

Event 05 — Mar 2025

US Championship

One of two Texas teams to make the US Open Skills ranking. It's a weird feeling competing at a national level and realizing you actually belong there. The robot held. The drive held. We left knowing we were ready for Dallas.

Event 06 — May 2025

VEX Worlds
Division Finals

Dallas. The biggest event in VEX. We made it to the division finals — just us and the best teams on the planet. Everything we'd built, fixed, rebuilt, and stayed up for got us to that stage. Whatever happens next, 7009X was here.

Achievements
01
Excellence Award
The one award in VEX that means you got everything right — robot, driving, notebook, and how you carry yourself as a team. We've picked it up at multiple regionals. It never gets old.
Multiple Events
02
Tournament Champion
Won the bracket at multiple regional events. These weren't lucky runs — we beat ranked teams in both driver and autonomous rounds and earned every match.
Regional
03
Design Award
Our engineering notebook showed the actual process — the failures, the pivots, the reasoning behind each decision. Not just what we built but why we built it that way.
Engineering
04
Skills Champion
Top combined robot skills score in our region. We ran driver and autonomous scores that put us in the same conversation as the strongest skills teams in Texas.
Skills
05
Think Award
GPS and odometry fusion, custom autonomous algorithms, reliable match-day execution. The Think Award went to the code that held up when it actually needed to.
